Terms of Use

Effective Date: 10 October 2025

1. Acceptable Use

Reo Chat is a bilingual communication tool for sharing and learning te reo Māori and English. You agree not to include any sensitive, confidential, or private information in your messages.

Once shared publicly, messages are visible to anyone with the link. We are not responsible if a public message is forwarded, copied, or shared beyond your intended audience.

1A. Accounts and Personal Information

When you create an account, you agree to provide accurate information and keep your login details secure. We store your name and email address to manage your account. Passwords are encrypted and never visible to us.

2. Third-Party Services

We use external services to process and explain messages, such as OpenAI for translation and GIPHY for image search. By using Reo Chat, you acknowledge that message content may be sent to these services for processing.

We do not send your name, email, or IP address to these services — only message content.

3. Message Storage

All messages are stored on secure servers hosted by Render.com and may be retained indefinitely. You can request deletion of specific messages or your entire account by contacting privacy@reo.chat.

3A. Account-Linked Messages

Messages created while signed in are linked to your account and shown on your “My Messages” page. They are private to you unless you choose to share them publicly. Publicly shared messages become accessible to anyone with the link.

4. Disclaimer

Reo Chat provides translations and explanations generated by automated systems. We make no guarantees regarding accuracy or completeness. You use this tool at your own discretion and accept full responsibility for the content you share.

5. Termination

You may close your account or request deletion of your data at any time by emailing privacy@reo.chat. We reserve the right to remove content or accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law.
